The Important Role of CNAs in Long Term Care

Every day, more than 2 million staff care for millions of America’s seniors and individuals with disabilities in nursing homes, assisted living communities and other long term care centers.
Certified nursing assistants, or CNAs, play a vital role in this workforce. A day in the life of a CNA could include:
- Helping residents with needs like bathing, eating, and dressing
- Monitoring food and liquid intake
- Recording vital signs
- Reporting to a resident’s care team with updates on their condition
- Helping residents stay clean and comfortable
CNAs also spend quality time with the residents, listening to their stories and offering compassionate care. Because of their day-to-day involvement in residents’ lives, CNAs often become like family to those they care for – and many CNAs feel the same way.
